If you have been with me in my last two travel article where I took you on a fascinating ride to the world’s largest waterfall”the Victoria falls “and the charming town of Livingstone then you are already aware of the fact that for me journey is as important as the destination and god forbid you missed the train
the two articles are available in travel and food categories here, go and
explore the roaring pride of Zambia. So, my lovelies, here we again embark upon a fetching journey where an alluring destination awaits us.The journey is through highlands and the destination is enthralling Lake Kariba. The world’s largest man-made lake ,Man-Made lake people Man-Made ..I am awestruck by this fact because its really huge and at some places resembles a ocean. The lake is along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and was filled following the completion of the Kariba Dam…Yes! the dam is must visit place.
Lake Kariba is more of a weekend getaway ,we always plan a relaxing weekend at the magical lake which is just 192 kms from Lusaka (the capital city of Zambia ) and it takes us about 2 hours to reach. The road leading to lake Kariba is well maintained therefore making it a pleasant ride. On the way don’t forget to appreciate the Steep and forested mountains laden with intriguing baobab trees, all this viewing only when not driving , driving keeps your eyes glued to roads as it is full of twists and turns. That’s the reason I am always on passenger seat ,looking
for possibilities each more fanciful than the next.
We start early in the morning just after finishing our breakfast so that we are at the lake on time, settled in our rooms and has a whole day ahead of us enjoying the spectacular view, fishing, boating or relaxing at the bank of lake soaking up the sunshine.
The weather at the lake is mostly sunny but can get quite hot in midsummer. Pack your sporty cloths for this place.
This time we were traveling with our closed friends, tried to book a houseboat but couldn’t because of the peak season.A houseboat holiday is a great way to spent
some relaxing time on the lake, bathing in the glory of Sun and enjoying captivating twilight atmosphere between sunset and moon rise, believe me its a bewitching sight with ever-dynamic hues and colors around the lake, brought about by descending Sun and ascending moon.
Fortunately, we managed to book a room on a premium property with a private pool facing the lake. We spent a fun-filled day under the glorious Sun and on the lake doing fishing , boating, even had our lunch on the jumbo boat. Since we were a big group of adults and kids ,everyone had their company and it made
activities more engaging and entertaining. After a Lively but tiring day, kids had their dinner and hit beds straight but we adults had other plans. We changed into swimsuits and jumped right into the swimming pool facing the dreamy lake and when twilight faded to blackness and you tilt your head skyward, you could see clearly million of bright stars dotted on the black canvas of night and downward the moonlit Lake Kariba, scene straight from a fairy tale. To experience this and many more you have to visit lake Kariba.
Let’s discuss some attractions of Lake Kariba which might come handy to make up your mind to visit Lake Kariba
lake Kariba is well known for its fishing and especially sports fishing. The tiger fish is a popular catch and the lake boasts the annual tiger fishing competition in the May in search of this fighting fish. Bream are very tasty and are very common in the lake

The dam stands tall at almost 130m high and spans a length of 1/2 km with a berth roadway 12 m thick. Standing on the dam you could observe the ocean like image of the lake .
